Airport Lounge
Oct 27th
I had arrived in Mumbai. Flying over the City I could see that it was pretty big and like most of the Cities in the world it consists mainly of tower blocks. As we got closer to the ground I could see that in between most of these tower blocks there are hundreds of shacks.
All Airports look the same they are grey with yellow signs everywhere, Mumbai airport is the same, but it feels like it was built in the 60s and hasn't change since. Even the duty free shops don't look as if they have been restocked, there was certainly no one buying anything. There was a musty smell of the old, with a slight hint of wee, nice.
I had a 7 hour wait until my transfer to Delhi I could have done with that puzzle a day pad from Epic! On the plus side my phone has got reception and I was able to send a text to my sister.
I managed to find a free lounger thing and I was just nodding off when I was interrupted by this enthusiastic Indian gentleman, he informed me that lunch was being served for my flight number in the restaurant. That was quite an experience, I realized at this point I was going to have to get used to queuing in India it seems to be a national pass time! The meal consisted of a variety of unidentifiable curry things, a japati bread and a popadom all in a restaurant that was probably fairly smart in 1960. I couldn't find a plastic spoon that some others had so I got into the spirit of things and ate with my right hand (the non poo hand) it's not actually that easy with rice and curry!
I think I must have been amongst three whit men and not a single white woman in the whole building, I know skin colour is irrelevant really, but it did add to the feeling of unfamiliarity.
